G1 Extreme Slideboard Review
Are you looking for ways to practice your stick handling skills, and improve your skating techniques? The G1 Slide Board Package is ideal hockey workout equipment for your needs.
The G1 Slideboard has been around for a number of years, however it has been recently enhanced to provide hockey players with an improved practice resource whether you are a forward, defensive player or a goalie.
HockeyShot.com provides a versatile, safe, effective tool for practicing not only your skating but also your passing and stick handling. It stores conveniently, is extremely portable, and makes for a great dry land exercise aid for at home in the basement, or pregame workout on the road. You can take the Slideboard out of its tote bag, unroll it quickly on to a flat carpeted surface, and assemble it in just a few minutes.
Once you lay the Slideboard down, you don't have to worry about it sliding out from under you as it has a set of tapes which grip, but don't stick to the carpeted surface. You'll probably want to use carpet with short fibers, like berber carpet as opposed to shag carpet from the 70's or something. You'll need a space at least more than 5x8 feet, so the Slideboard will lie flat. You won't have to wrestle with it or weigh it down to get it to lie flat though.
If you are already familiar with the G1 Extreme Slideboard (cool name eh?) here are the recent enhancements from the original.
- The original G1 was red. The new one is white, more like an ice surface. You can see the puck better, or maybe the Green Biscuit if you use that for stick handling or passing practice.
- The latest Slideboard has square and rectangular push stoppers. The original one had some round ones. Square gives a great push off surface for your feet. You can use them for stick handling obstacles.
Just to caution you if you are looking at the Slideboard, you won't want to use it with socks, or leave the Slideboard lying around for someone to slip on. It's very slippery, and you don't want to accidentally wipe out or have someone else do so. You can wear shoes, and the “booties” that come with the Slideboard for practicing your skating manoeuvers whether you are a goalie, defence or forward.
The G1 also can be purchased with a set of bungie-like rebounders, which you can use for passing practice. This probably seems like a whole lot, but everything fits nice and neat into its own bag, just roll up the G1, throw on the straps and you are good to go.
Words on a website really can't do the G1 Extreme Slideboard justice, you have to check out the video by clicking on the link at left. You'll see you can practice skating style movements against the blockers, make like a goalie defending his or her crease, or imagine you are stick handling around a set of pylons (or the opposing team). You probably want to have some high energy tunes going in the background so you and/or your team mates can work up a good sweat practicing your stick work or skating moves.
Be sure to check out the G1 Extreme Slideboard on HockeyShot.com (Goalie version) or its big brother, the G1 Pro Extreme Slideboard (Player version 5x10). Kids might want to strap on their elbow pads, knee pads or more gear if they are on a hard surface. They don't call it a Slide Board for nothing!
